Creativity should be nurtured, not crushed or reprimanded

I for one am going to school just to get a flipping piece of paper that tells the world I am acquitted. I take these classes some helpful others not so much just so I can walk into an interview and be taken seriously.

What I want to end up doing ultimately is creating human interest pieces that will get the local community and the national as a whole talking. I want to address things like the flaws in the educational system and the  teachers the work tirelessly at the thankless job for shaping and molding the young minds of our future leaders.

Or create a photo essay showcasing the amazing diversity of cultures in NYC. This is a fast past city but the beautiful thing is we all live here together. Neighborhoods have cultural fusion happening all the time. But more so play on the idea of Acceptance and tolerance.

I know when it comes to the few video pieces i have done for school they come off a little corky. But that is just how i am. I am a different kind of story teller… Don’t reprimand me for being different… Help me get my point across..

How does this make you feel?

I made this video for my Documentary class this semester…(Spring 2012)

the task was:

Project #2 Will be critiqued and graded on the following criteria:

    • Well composed, and well exposed images. Even and flowing audio without “hiccups”
    • Clear meaning of story and intent of your piece.
    • 1 minute and 30 second run time
    • Creative description of your piece that does not directly describe  what the viewer is expected to see, but is a creative addition to the storys intent and emotion. 4 sentences
    • Feeling of “space” and “emotion”

I shot this on the Canon T2i with a Sigma 28-300mm lens. I had a lot of fun doing this.It taught me a lot abt holding the shot…waiting for the magic to happen…this was fun

My First Project I as an official Co-Executive Producer. This class (Basic studio production)  I was the Teaching Assistant for. I advised them with development of the show idea, writing and set design. I was so glad help these enthusiastic young individuals. Made their learning experience fun. But this was not a cake walk. Our TV studio was a shared space and things had to be set and touched up the night before almost thought they couldn’t pull it off.

Title: “York Beat”

This was a little arts and leisure piece done for the school news paper about the first show of the 2009 season. I personally had a lot of fun shooting this. I had one week to put this together with my co-producer  Andres Ramirez , who is also the field reporter. The in studio host is my best friend Kevin Gomez. We basically had a rough idea of what we had to do came up with some general question and let Tom Marion’s personality shine through. For the in studio part we shot on the Cannon t2i with a 30mm Sigma lens and for the “field” shoots we used a Sony V1u.

This is my latest work. This is my friend Sabrina Thomas she is wonderful humble person and vary talented. When shooting this I wanted to capture her personality in its rawest form. So the view can get real feel for who she is. My Camera Women on this were Natalie Rodriguez and Riss Wilson. This time around I was just the Director, Editor, and Producer.

(Side note: used 2 Cannon t2i 30mm sigma lens 85mm sigma lens an XLR Adapter for DSLR and a direct connection to the electric acoustic guitar)

So I touched up the video. I fixed the title error I had in the last video and just made the picture a lot cooler in color tone. He looked sickly yellow in the last vid but over all its still the same thing but just better :)

This is Kevin Gomez my BEST FRIEND. We did an impromptu interview and just a little bit of him playing guitar. He really is talented I wanted to add some stock footage of him acting and more of the interview but I was like let me keep it short and sweet who knows maybe I can get him on the Real World.

This was one of my many impromptu shoots. Emerson played an original song title ” (And Then) We Fall”. I used two Cannon T2is and a 30mm Sigma lens and a 85mm Sigma lens. I love the words and seeing what his mannerisms are as he sings. This was just so raw and soulful song and video.

I ABSOLUTELY  LOVED THIS CLASS PROJECT! This was done in Spring Semester of 2010 :)

We were told to put a show to showcase up and coming indie documentary film makers. I took the lead on the set design team. My duties where as follows:

  • create a renderings set that would fit out shows theme and feel
  • create a lighting scheme
  • build actual set
  • design lighting scheme

The drafting process was really fun :)

Building it was so much fun, cutting out the flats, getting them painted and directing a design team was an amazing experience. I was only as successful as they wanted to be, I had a really good team. But when it came to the actually shoot day I was the AD (assistant director) keeping the time of all the segments we shot.
